The "Old, Rugged Cross" - Another elohim?by Rebekah J. Coover-age 11 2/3-February 10, 2001"So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down: I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it, someday, for a crown." So the old song says.Let us take a look at the words of this song: the real words, and what they really mean. This same song says that "To the Christ of the cross, I will ever be true......." How can we be ever true to Yahshua, if we are idolizing the cross that he died on."We're not idolizing it," you say. "We're just singing an old song." Well, I guess that if I brought Yankee Doodle to you, you'd just accept it, and be "singing an old song.""I'll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down." It sounds like the cross is just a trophy.Let me ask you a question. If you had a good friend, better than any friend you'd ever had, and somebody shot him, how would you feel. I know! You make little necklaces to wear, with little guns on them, and you'd write a song. It would go something like this: "So I'll cherish the old bullet gun....." Right? No! How dare I say something like that!?But wait: the idea for the "gun song" came from the "Old Rugged Cross" song. And that's just an old song! Do you get my point? The cross is a silly idol, not anything wonderful.I can just imagine someone clinging on to the cross, and dragging it everywhere, with them, and then in heaven saying, "Oh good!" and throwing their "god" down, and taking their crown. Wait: if the cross is so good, then why exchange it. Why not keep it! And if all of Yah's people throw their crosses down, in exchange for a crown, Yah's going to have a lot of crosses, to remind him of the death of His Son, here on earth, isn't He?Also, I do not like to call Yahshua "the Christ of the cross....." He is not of the cross, of death! He is of Yahweh, His Father!Through all of this rundown, I have been trying to make a point. It is that the cross is not to be worshiped!Yahshua Messiah, the Son of Yahweh and Light of the world is to be worshiped!!!!!!! |
