CHAPTER 3: Thoughts From A Fellow Believer
As I understand it, down through history clever men seen that lost
books purporting to be "Scriptural" could fetch big bucks... don't think
con-artists only began in modern times.
You speak of a hundred years ago people believed these books to be
true. NOT. Many did because they were Catholics and were embraced by the
church. The KJV of 1611- never had them included for a reason.
I did a sermon before using Maccabees because it is a top notch historical
document (especially first Mac, and much of 2 Mac). I would never push
a doctrine by any book not in the KJV.
You may wish to study how the KJV came into being. There are many
books mentioned in the Scriptures that are not included that I would love
to read - like the acts of Solomon, but it would be easy to con someone
by writing a novel and just name it "acts of Solomon" and say it must be
the one mentioned in Kings.
The point I tried to make to you was that the Scriptures we have
now are a lifelong study that no one will complete. Take my word for this:
you will only discredit yourself in the eyes of others when you push these
"lost books". You defend your position well, and I respect your decision
to study them and don't judge you for it - it is your business.
I will say, that if you desire to do additional study other than
Scripture, read things accepted for good history and accepted authority
in the spirit they were written. Try the works of Josephus.... or the ARCO
files {spelling?}... which are genuine documents from ancient governments
including text from Pilate etc.
