Marriage And Divorce
by Matthew Coover
THE marriage vow is a promise, and a promise is not to be broken. Allowance
is given for divorce in TORAH (Deut.24:1),
but Yahshua said regarding this, "For
the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this precept... What therefore
Yahweh hath joined together, let not man put asunder" (Mk.10:5,9).
The breaking of a marriage vow is bearing false
witness, which is also forbidden in the scriptures (Ex.20:16).
If we are not to remarry after divorce, there is no justified reason for
a divorce, other than monetary benefits. It was wisely said,
“The love of money is the
root of all evil...”(1 Timothy 6:10) Divorce
only causes more grief and heartache, and it will NEVER solve the root
of the problem. If there is a problem, “separation for a season” should
be sought until the problem has been worked out.
Once a man or woman has been divorced, they are not permitted to remarry.
To do so is to commit adultery. (Mark 10:11,12)
For those who have already made this mistake, forgiveness from Yahweh
remains possible upon full repentance, but the scars which have been created
will remain.
An individual who has already made the mistake of remarriage after divorce
is not to attempt to patch things up by returning to the former spouse.
To do so is an abomination to Yahweh . (Dt
24:3,4)
It is for these many reasons that Yahweh has commanded his
people to remain pure. The many hardships which we often experience occur
when we have not taken heed to Yahweh’s counsel, and only we
can accept the blame for our own actions and mistakes.
